RMCAD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vasd.rmcad.edu\/20252026-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer (VASD) Program<\/a> is thrilled to be hosting Unay, who is kicking off the 2025\/2026 Recontextualize Series at RMCAD. His talk is open to all members of the local community in person and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unay\u2019s early love of film and special effects led him to be a character designer and face sculptor for many blockbuster movies. You have likely seen Unay\u2019s visual effects work in major motion pictures including<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5PSNL1qE6VY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Avatar<\/a> (2009) and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AYaTCPbYGdk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> King Kong<\/a> (2005). He is also a respected documentary filmmaker, directing his own features <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R-RKqGaNq-Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Free To Play<\/a> (2014) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5WOK9ifhe8k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Cage Fighter<\/a> (2018), the latter of which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. More recently, Unay worked as a cinematographer on the award-winning documentary film<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B4WZuMPXFZY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Satan and Adam<\/a> (2019). Unay is a Concordia Fellow, Sundance Institute, Tribeca Film Institute, and Points North Institute Fellow, and is a member of the Full Sail University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fullsail.edu\/hall-of-fame\/inductees\/jeff-unay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hall of Fame<\/a>.\u00a0<br>\u201cUnay is such a great example for our students about how they don\u2019t need to choose just one field to be passionate about,\u201d said VASD Program Director, Gretchen Schaefer. \u201cWe always encourage our students to experiment with their work, and Unay is a creative who can speak to this first-hand.\u201d This event is FREE and open to the public.
